My artwork explores principles of femininity, particularly to display ideal characteristics of inner strength and elegance. I was inspired to create a contemporary interpretation of feminine figures in renaissance art; drawing inspiration from their poise, yet creating the artwork using my own impasto technique. This entire artwork has been formed using a palette knife and tiny little strokes to create texture and the different tones and values.
About The Collection:
The visual element of texture in art evokes an array of emotions for each individual. The 3 dimensional nature of an artwork provides an interesting viewing experience, especially as the moving light of day casts different shadows at every hour. With texture, the artwork comes to life through the bold strokes of each colour. The technique of using a palette knife to thickly apply paint is called ‘Impasto’. This technique creates the sense that the paint is coming out of the canvas.
Artworks that have been created with the Impasto technique carry a strong physical presence. Personally, this is an emotional and expressive manner of creating for myself as an artist. My hope is that these artworks inspire creativity and evoke joyful emotions of spontaneity, freedom, and intrigue.
